fiscal representation

Fiscal representation is an ancillary service suitable for traders established outside the European Union (EU) seeking logistical solutions to export their products competitively to all the EU states.

When trading within the EU, entities must comply with VAT obligations. In so doing they may apply for a VAT registration number and choose to administer the various formalities specific to individual EU countries themselves.

Alternatively they may appoint us as their fiscal representative. In return we, on behalf of traders established outside the EU, would ensure compliance to all the administrative processes involved in exporting to the EU. The trader would thereby be saving administrative and other costs related to having to set up office in every EU state.

Essentially consignments of traders established outside the EU can circulate freely within the EU once customs duty is paid in Malta. Through the Onward Supply Relief process this may be done without actually paying Value Added Tax (VAT). This process simply ensures that VAT is merely accounted for in accordance with Maltese VAT legislation.

Having achieved free circulation (C status), consignments originating from outside the EU but stored within our facilities at the Malta Freeport are consequently strategically placed to compete with similar products originating within the EU.
