The Malta Free Zones Act of 2019 has been launched, enabling the Malta Government to designate areas as free zones in Malta. This development has been welcomed as a step in the right direction to facilitate international trade.

Salvo Grima Group chairman Robert Aquilina was actively involved in the consultation process relating to this Act whilst chairing the Malta Chamber of Commerce and Industry‘s Logistics Committee.

The Act proposes the establishment of an authority to administer the free zones, whilst offering assistance to the enterprises operating within this sector, creating new opportunities in terms of high-quality jobs and commercial activity.

“Our location at the commercial crossroads between Europe and Africa gives us a unique advantage,” said Economy Minister Chris Cardona, who presented the bill in Parliament. “This law will pave the way for Malta to become a centre of excellence for the logistics industry.”
