The Salvo Grima Foundation is proud to announce that Kaydi has officially graduated as a certified service dog from the Service Dogs Malta Foundation.
The Salvo Grima Foundation was honoured to sponsor Kaydi’s journey from start to finish, helping make her transformation from trainee to fully qualified service dog. Kaydi was one of five dogs to complete the specialised training programme this year, after three years of training.
Kaydi will now be assigned to a person with mobility difficulties, where she’ll play a crucial roll in improving the individual’s quality of life. For people facing physical challenges, a service dog is far more than a companion, they are a trusted partner who enables greater autonomy and participation in everyday activities.
Service dogs do a lot more than just physical support, they also positively impacting a person’s self confidence, independence, and overall mental health. Keeping positive is one of our values, and a service dog is a near perfect embodiment of this value, giving new opportunities to the people they support.
Training a service dog is a highly structured and intensive process, designed to prepare each dog for the specific needs of their future handler. With a cost of approximately €15,000 per dog, the programme covers professional training, veterinary care, socialisation, and the development of advanced assistance skills. These skills can include retrieving items, opening doors, providing physical stability, and offering essential daily support.
This sponsorship forms part of our broader and ongoing commitment to supporting impactful community initiatives. Kaydi is the second service dog sponsored by the Salvo Grima Foundation in recent years, reflecting a sustained dedication to programmes that create meaningful and lasting change. By investing in initiatives like this, we are activity doing our part to make a difference within our community.
We extend our heartfelt congratulations to Kaydi and to the entire team at the Service Dogs Malta Foundation for their dedication, professionalism, and tireless work in making these life-changing partnerships possible.
At the Salvo Grima Foundation, we remain committed to initiatives that foster inclusion, independence, and positive community impact. Kaydi’s graduation is not only a milestone for her, but a powerful reminder of what can be achieved when organisations and communities come together with purpose.
